English Profile – a major project exploring how the Common European Framework of Reference for Languages relates to specific features of English – is moving into a new phase: the English Profile Network.
The project, currently in its second year, has
completed much of the necessary basic research on
the Cambridge English Corpus and is now moving
into a phase of consultation which will enable a
framework for the rest of the project to be further
developed.
In July, a two-day event was held for education ministries and their advisors from around the world to introduce them to the work that has already been done.
They were asked for their input on the uses they would put English Profile to and the needs, abilities and challenges they perceive with the project.
In September, a second seminar was held for academics from around the world, and further events are taking place in February and July 2008.
English Profile will also be prominent at the 3rd ALTE International Conference in Cambridge in 2008. These events are building a network of specialists in many countries who will help us make English Profile a reality.
