Growth in Latin America
Cambridge ESOL has seen remarkable development in Latin America in recent months and is continuing to develop that growth by adding more offices and staff in the region.
A new office has been opened in Buenos Aires, Argentina, managed by Litty Mora, Cambridge ESOL Development Manager for Argentina, alongside Marketing Manager Rosario Aguerre, and Marketing Officer Cecilia Westerdahl. The office will help to support our long-standing relationship with schools throughout Argentina and to promote our exams more effectively.
At the Mexico City office, Rafael Sanchez Majdich has recently been appointed Development Manager: Rafael formerly worked as Director of Development for Centro Escolar Cedros, Cambridge ESOL’s largest supplier school in Mexico. Marketing Officer Raul Martinez and Corporate Sales Representative Carmen Gonzalez Veraas are also new appointments to the Mexico City office.
In Brazil, Development Manager Helena Nagano has recently been joined by Marketing Officer Rone Costa and Corporate Sales Representative Anelize Giraldi.

Seminars success in Mexico
A 20-date free seminar programme in Mexico came to an end in October, having hosted more than 3,000 delegates in a range of cities across the country.
The seminars included presentations from Cambridge ESOL, and were also supported by Cambridge ESOL’s centres in Mexico, and leading publishers in language learning.
Rafael Sánchez Majdich (pictured), Cambridge ESOL Development Manager for Mexico said: ‘This has been an incredibly successful series of seminars, and because of the generous funding from our sponsors, we have been able to keep them free of charge for our delegates.’ The series of seminars finished in Mexico City with a YLE seminar which was attended by 300 teachers. A new programme of 15 seminars for 2008 is already under way.
New teams focus on work and schools sectors
Cambridge ESOL has appointed two new Global Managers who will focus on strategies for developing the worlds of Business English and English assessment in the primary and secondary education sector.
Deshini Chetty, Global Manager – Workplace Assessment, joins Cambridge ESOL from Pearson Assessments and Testing International. Cristina Rimini, who has moved from the Asset Languages programme, is Global Manager – Schools.
Lausanne Local Secretary retires
Christopher Vasey, Local Secretary of the Lausanne centre, has retired after more than 30 years’ work with Cambridge ESOL, including 12 years as a Local Secretary, a role he took over from his father.
We wish him well for a long, happy retirement.
Ann Hennessy Picard
The autumn brought sad news of the death of Ann Hennessy Picard, former Local Secretary in Strasbourg (FR013).
Ann was a dynamic representative of Cambridge ESOL exams since she first became an Oral Examiner in the early 1990s.
Ann died in September after a long illness and is much missed by colleagues.
Bulgaria hosts regional conference
The Bulgarian city of Veliko Turnovo was the venue for a regional conference for Romanian and Bulgarian teachers in September.
The conference, which was co-sponsored by the British Council Bulgaria and British Council Romania, featured updates, skills-based seminars and introduced new Cambridge ESOL qualifications. It was attended by around 100 delegates.
