Studies in Language Testing series
To date, 22 volumes have been published, most of which were jointly edited by Dr Mike Milanovic, Chief Executive of Cambridge ESOL and Professor Cyril Weir, University of Bedfordshire.
The purpose of the SiLT series is to make a professional contribution to academic communities, language testing researchers, course designers and also education policymakers such as Ministries of Education worldwide. Certain volumes also help Cambridge ESOL explain the theory and practice underpinning the tests - for example see Volumes 15 (on CPE), 16 (on CELS) and 17 (on BEC).
Professor Bernard Spolsky says …
In his recent review of Volume 15, internationally renowned language tester Professor Bernard Spolsky evaluated it as follows: ‘An invaluable case book for training language testers and teachers…. Makes explicit the developing philosophy of good testing practice… With its wealth of illustrative examples and detailed statistics, this study clearly presents an exceptional case study of a well-managed and professionally-serviced English language test… an important study, showing the possibilities of good language testing.’ (Bernard Spolsky: 2004, ELT Journal, 58 (3) 305-309).
