First exams for Vietnamese young learners

The first Young Learners English exams in Vietnam’s state sector were run in December, and attracted a huge response from young candidates from Ho Chi Minh City.
The first awards ceremony was held in January at the launch of the Cambridge English Club in the Vietnamese capital. A Young Learners session
in March and registration for a May session also received similar positive responses.

Obituary: Maria Keller
With deep regret we report
the death of Maria Keller,
a very active member of
the Cambridge ESOL team
in Germany.
Maria, a freelance teacher and teacher trainer with many years’ experience, was highly thought of in the English language teaching community. She was extremely committed to high standards in English language teaching and language assessment and acted
as a committee member and chair of several language teachers’ associations (e.g. IATEFL/BESIG, ELTAF). As a Team Leader for the Cambridge ESOL Speaking tests, as senior seminar presenter for Germany and Austria as well as a consultant for Cambridge ESOL in Germany, her contribution
to our work was considerable.
Maria died on 11 May 2007 following a short illness – a sad loss to her family, to the English language teaching community, Cambridge ESOL and to her colleagues and many friends.
