Celebrating the Beijing Speaks English project

Alison Richard (Vice Chancellor of the University of Cambridge) and Yang Liuyin (Director General of the Foreign Affairs Office of the People’s Government of Beijing Municipality)In April this year, Vice Chancellor of the University of Cambridge, Alison Richard, and Cambridge ESOL’s Chief Executive, Michael Milanovic, attended the inaugural meeting in China to celebrate the Beijing Municipal Government’s (Foreign Affairs Office) project. The project to develop the English language skills of up to five million citizens is part of its preparations for hosting the 2008 Olympics.

This initiative attracted a great deal of positive press throughout China, with local and national media running stories on the Beijing Speaks English Project.
