The Instituto Cultural Anglo-Uruguayo in Montevideo has become the first centre in South America to offer the International Legal English Certificate (ILEC), the world’s first internationally recognised test of legal English.
The centre will help lawyers and legal students in the region to prove their ability to function effectively in English in an international legal context.
To mark the introduction of the exam to Uruguay, an official breakfast was held in the presence of the British Ambassador, Hugh Salvesen. The event was attended by a number of key private universities and law companies, attracting national TV, radio and press coverage. ‘ILEC’s introduction to South America, and particularly Montevideo, shows how important it is for professional people
here to be able to communicate effectively in English,’ commented Rosina Perrier, Director General of the Instituto Cultural Anglo-Uruguayo. ‘ILEC will help them prove their language competence in an ever expanding world context.’
