The number of Mexican children taking the Cambridge Young Learners English Tests (YLE) has grown by 34% over the last year, and over the last five years by 180%.
This huge increase can partly be explained by the fact that the tests are a motivating and enjoyable way for children to learn English. Offering tests that are precisely tailored to the
needs
and
interests of children creates a positive learning experience, helping children enjoy those first few steps in learning English.
Increased interest in the tests is something of a global trend. Children aged 7–12 all over the world are taking the tests to show their parents, teachers and friends how they are getting on in English. As their results are linked to international standards, they can see exactly what level they are at and compare themselves with students learning English in other countries.
As well as having fun, by taking the tests these children in Mexico are already starting to prepare themselves for the international world of work and study. The YLE tests are available at three levels – Starters, Movers and Flyers – and are a good stepping stone to higher level qualifications.
