TKT seminars and workshops for Mexico and Colombia

TKT course co-author, Melanie Williams in MexicoRecently Cambridge ESOL and Cambridge University Press set up a series of seminars and workshops in Mexico and Colombia to introduce the Teaching Knowledge Test (TKT).

Over 1,800 teachers, co-ordinators and academic managers attended these events to find out more about Cambridge ESOL’s newest teaching award, which focuses on the core teaching knowledge needed by teachers of English.

Melanie Williams, a co-author of The TKT Course, provided an overview of the test and explained how it can enhance teacher career opportunities and help to raise levels of English.

Melanie also ran a practical workshop in Mexico City to show universities, co-ordinators and trainers from all over the country how a TKT training course could be organised and delivered in practice.

In Mexico and Colombia, universities are choosing to embed TKT into their undergraduate teacher training degrees, valuing the strong foundation it gives in the core areas of teaching knowledge. The Mexican Ministry of Education has incorporated the TKT syllabus into its new national development programme to retrain state secondary teachers and various regional educational authorities in Colombia are using TKT for their regional programmes to retrain teachers.
