Examining opportunities
Cambridge ESOL welcomes applications from prospective examiners on an ongoing basis. Applicants should be based in the UK and meet our minimum professional requirements (MPRs). Our Notes to Accompany Examiner Application Forms (PDF 52Kb) gives details of MPRs and examiner requirements in the UK, as well as other information, and we recommend that you read this document before submitting an application.
For 2009, we are particularly looking for examiners to mark the writing components of BEC and PET and for assessors for the Skills for Life Speaking and Listening mode (see below for details).
Assistant examiners
Cambridge ESOL invites applications for Assistant Examiners for on-site marking weekends for Business English Certificates (BEC) in the Sheffield, Bristol and Southampton areas and Preliminary English Test (PET) in the Cambridge and London areas. Successful applicants will be fully trained and will mark under supervision.
Skills for Life assessors
Cambridge ESOL invites applications for Assessors for the Speaking and Listening mode. Applicants will need to have a reasonable amount of availability during the week (at least two days and/or evenings per week), as most centres request weekday assignments and a few centres request weekends.
Please note that assessors are required in the following areas: North East of England (especially Yorks/Sheffield and Tyneside); North West of England (especially Cheshire and Lancashire); the Midlands (especially Birmingham and Leicester); and also in London.
Applicants should be resident in the UK and possess the following qualifications:
- education to first degree level or equivalent*;
- a recognised TESOL qualification*;
- at least three years’ full-time, relevant teaching experience, within the past five years;
- overall language proficiency relevant to the examination level, including clear diction in the case of oral examining.
*An applicant may be exempt either from the formal teaching qualifications or from the first degree/equivalence requirement (but not both) if s/he can demonstrate considerable relevant teaching experience supported by positive references.
